Jonathan Groff Talks GLEE In New Interview with Vanity Fair

Brett Berk: Truly. Last week, your bad attitude led to fisticuffs between you and Finn. In a real fight, how would you take him?
Jonathan Groff: I think I would hit him down low. I think if I rocked him from the bottom, he would fall over, and all of that weight would fall on top of him. I also don’t think he’s very quick on his feet, so I think that going for the legs and the mid-section would be the best.

Brett Berk: Speaking of taking one of the Glee boys, I happen to think that almost all of the guys on the show are adorable. If you were a 14-year-old boy again, right now, which one would you have as the wallpaper on your iPhone?
Jonathan Groff: I’d probably have Chris Colfer, because I think he’s so brave on the show, and the things he’s doing are setting such a great example for young people, gay or straight, in terms of educating them and putting it out there. And in real life, he’s such an amazing person. He’s handling his fame and his success and his…responsibility in such a classy way. I really admire him.

Jonathan Groff discusses return of Jesse St. James on GLEE

Jesse St. James, played by Jonathan Groff, is most known for being Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) ex-boyfriend from the rival Carmel High School.

“I love his confidence and how unabashedly full of himself he is,” Groff said. “Is he good or is he bad? Jesse certainly had a secret. He’s likable and unlikable at the same time. It’s a fun balance.”

In the last episode Jesse appeared in, he egged Rachel in the WMHS parking lot after their relationship turned sour then leads the Vocal Adrenaline glee club to a win over the New Directions in the Regionals competition.

“It was awesome. I loved it,” Groff said of the parking lot scene. “The only thing that was hard was not laughing. It took five or six takes. The lines were so intense.”

“I wish I knew more,” he said of Jesse’s return. “I found out last week. Ryan Murphy contacted me. I start in a week or two.”

“I’ll be singing with Lea probably but I don’t know if he’s raising havoc or coming to apologize.”

“Their relationship was a little unresolved,” he said. “I would like some resolution.”

Ryan Murphy's new interview with E Online

Ryan Murphy talks Jonathan Groff, "Trouble" for Rachel, the Super Bowl with E Online!

Will Jonathan Groff be back?
Jon Groff is definitely coming back next year. Next calendar year. He's not available until January, but he'll be in the back [nine] episodes of this season.

Will John Stamos become a regular?
We haven't made any decisions about John yet, but we love him! I think he's been incredible so far on the show. And really funny.

Is it true you've narrowed the big Super Bowl episode down to two choices?
No, I still haven't figured out who I want to do. I feel like everyone's already talking about Michael Jackson or Springsteen or Prince, but I want to do something that no one would suspect. Just some random person, I don't know. I have a couple feelers out to several artists, all of whom have said yes—which I never expected, so now I have to choose, and I don't know who I want.

Thanks for the "good news" on Will and Emma, and their quadrangle with Gwyneth Paltrow. Will there be any Coldplay in the Gwyneth episode? I know they originally passed, but then gave you guys music clearance.
No, I'm having her do other stuff. We'd thought about that but I'm going to save them for a big competition episode. I don't know when, maybe not even this year. I love them.

There were rumors going around that Matthew Morrison was going to shave his head for the Britney Spears episode. Was that ever true?
Out of respect to her, to Britney, we decided we're just going to make this about the music and not talk about anything else. I wanted it to be positive. That was never seriously going to happen, it was just an idea—it was discussed as one of many things to do because she's had many pop culture events, but it was quickly discarded. None of us really felt it was appropriate.

How about something juicy on Finn and Rachel?
Nothing really new on the Rachel-Finn front...Although I will tell you there is trouble ahead when Rachel plays spin the bottle!

Jonathan Groff: 'Nothing official has been asked or offered'

During a new interview, Jonathan Groff had this to say about his "Glee" future.

What’s happened to you on Glee? Has Jesse St James gone to London?

That’s really funny— they do that on shows, don’t they? I was supposed to do only three episodes and then it got extended to seven or eight. I was written on as a senior, so the thought is that I graduated—but there is a possibility of me coming back. I’m here till January, but they are shooting the second season through April. But nothing official has been asked or offered.
